Datum - Reported

Description

The Datum associated with the Latitude and Longitude measures. In 2021, AQS was changed so the only valid datum when loading or updating a site record is WGS84. If your measurement was taken in NAD83, that is close enough for AQS purposes in the continental US to be reported as WGS84. If your measurement was taken in another datum, you must convert it before entry. There are several websites maintained by the US government and academic institutions that convert geographic coordinates.

More specifically, this field refers to the edition of North American Datum used as the basis for determining the site coordinates. (The editions of North American Datum establish a network of monuments and reference points defining a mathematical surface from which geographic computations can be made.) The World Geodetic Survey 1984 (WGS84) is one horizontal datum used by many Global Positioning System (GPS) instruments and many on-line mapping tools. United States Geological Survey (USGS) maps often use the North American Datum 1927 (NAD27).

Valid values for submission to AQS are:

  • WGS84

AQS converted coordinates reported with other data from the reported datum to our standard datum of WGS84.
